Email notifications: no SMTP host on the run. Configur SMTP under FIRE UI Configurations

Issue

Email notifications are not working because no SMTP host is configured on the run.

To enable email notifications, configure the SMTP settings under FIRE UI → Configurations.

Prerequisites

Before configuring SMTP, collect the following details from the customer/IT team:

  • SMTP Host
  • SMTP Port
  • SMTP Username
  • SMTP Password
  • Mail From email address
  • SMTP authentication requirement
  • Encryption type — TLS/STARTTLS/SSL

For example, for a Microsoft 365 SMTP setup:

Parameter Example
Mail From support@sparkflows.io
SMTP Host smtp.office365.com
SMTP Port 25
SMTP Auth User support@sparkflows.io
SMTP Auth Password SMTP account password
Encryption Confirm with the customer’s Microsoft 365 administrator

Security: Do not commit the SMTP password or any other credentials to Git. Use the FIRE UI configuration/secret-management mechanism to store sensitive values.

Steps to Configure SMTP

1. Open FIRE UI

Log in to the FIRE UI application using an account with permission to modify system configurations.

2. Navigate to Configurations

Go to:

FIRE UI → Configurations

Locate the ALERT configuration section.

3. Configure Mail From

Locate:

alert.mailFrom

Set it to the email address that should appear as the sender.

Example:

support@sparkflows.io

4. Configure SMTP Host

Locate:

alert.mailSmtpHost

Set the SMTP server hostname.

Example:

smtp.office365.com

5. Configure SMTP Port

Locate:

alert.mailSmtpPort

Set the SMTP server port.

Example:

25

The port should be provided/approved by the customer’s email administrator. For Microsoft 365 authenticated SMTP submission, 587 with STARTTLS is also commonly used.

6. Configure SMTP Authentication User

Locate:

alert.mailSmtpAuthUser

Enter the SMTP authentication username.

Example:

support@sparkflows.io

7. Configure SMTP Authentication Password

Locate:

alert.mailSmtpAuthPassword

Enter the password associated with the SMTP authentication account.

<SMTP_PASSWORD>

Do not add the actual password to the Git documentation.

8. Save the Configuration

After entering all required values, save/update the configuration.

Verify that the values are displayed correctly. The SMTP password should remain masked.

9. Test Email Notification

Trigger a workflow/run that generates an email notification.

Verify:

  • The run completes successfully.
  • The email notification is generated.
  • The email is received by the intended recipient.
  • The From address is correct.
  • There are no SMTP authentication or connection errors in the application logs.
